Grounded in Care
In 2021, Western Allied (led by Angie Simon and joined by Hermanson Mechanical from Seattle) successfully ran a 6-week pilot program for our Heavy Metal Summer Experience. This camp was designed to introduce local high school youth (ages 15-19) to the career opportunities that are available in the construction industry. 32 youths attended our first-ever summer camp with only two companies sponsoring the event. Then, in 2022, 4 companies in the Bay Area and 11 across the nation, including Western Allied, attended to provide over 150 kids with the Heavy Metal experience.
Western Allied also faced and overcame some challenges this year. With our shop moving to Union City in September of 2022, and both of our sheet metal and piping/plumbing shops having their hands full with a heavy project load, it has truly been a challenge for Western Allied to hold camp this year. Yet, because of the hard work and dedication to giving back to the community from all of our instructors and volunteers, we were able to host 16 kids again at camp this year! Thank you to all the volunteers for making the camp happen again and for showing that you care about our community and the future of our local youth.
We look forward to holding the camp again in our new state-of-the-art shop in Union City!
