The Status of Stratus – An Innovation Update
Since the beginning of 2024, WAM has been utilizing STRATUS to optimize our material procurement, prefabrication, and logistic workflow, with plans to onboard additional teams and leverage more innovative tools.
Since the beginning of 2024, WAM has been utilizing STRATUS to optimize our material procurement, prefabrication, and logistic workflow. STRATUS is a web-based software tool that allows various internal teams to access, review and complete tasks from an iPad, laptop or even a smart phone.
In our STRATUS workflow, General Foreman collaborate with the VDC group to identify deliverables based on the job constraints and schedule. How exactly do they do that? In short, they take our Revit model and upload it to the cloud to centralize the data for the job and create easy access through the internet. From there they work with the field foremen to decide how to manage packages and assemblies to prefab and make spool sheets. The field foremen work with the BIM department to pick the areas, floors, or sections from the drawings to put delivery dates to them according to the job site schedule.
In addition to planning, we also have the ability to track the status of the job along the way from detailing through installation. This allows us to build smaller areas of a job (and multiple jobs at the same time) for a “just in time” delivery. Once the shop updates the status, the shipping and receiving department can see what’s coming ahead and start to plan their deliveries. This should minimize the amount of time from when parts get built to when they are sent out for delivery.
Currently, we are in phase 2 of the STRATUS rollout and ahead of our goals but there is plenty more productivity to be gained as we progress forward to onboard additional teams such as; PM, Purchasing, and Engineering, and utilize more of the innovative tools available.
