Engineering Better Environments
by supporting career growth and networking for women in the construction industry
Did you know the construction industry is made up of approximately only 11% of women?
What is Western Allied doing about it? WAM has officially established an internal interest group called Women@WAM. The internal group is lead together by Vice President of Construction Yindy Felkins, Senior Project Manager Lisa Oneto and Senior Safety Coordinator Susie Parrish.
Our vision for Women@WAM is to build camaraderie, increase confidence, enhance trust and provide opportunities for women across all departments, whether it’s building skills, networking with peers in our field or providing leadership development.
We want to thank our fellow Women@WAM industry partners and non-profit industry groups for continuously providing learning, social and networking opportunities. We are looking forward to bringing more opportunities to and from Women@WAM in 2024. Here are some of our notable achievements of our first year:
- Bi-Monthly internal email blasts to Women@WAM of upcoming local events and news
- 1st Kickoff Luncheon to celebrate the formation of Women@WAM and celebrate 2023 Women in Construction Week
- Participated in the newly formed MCA of Northern California Women in the Mechanical Industry’s Chapter first ever meeting
- Hosted an onsite tour of our brand-new facility and shop for the Women of Whiting Turner
- Hosted the Women in Construction (WIC), a Bay Area SMACNA Mission Partner, End of Year Celebration at Western Allied Mechanical. Together we enjoyed food and drink, networking with friends old and new, crafted scented diffusers to get us in the holiday spirit, made greeting cards to donate to a local senior care facility to spread good cheer, enjoyed taking group pictures with polaroids, an impromptu karaoke session occurred and the WAM Jam Band made an appearance to serenade attendees with joyous live music!
